A client who owned a restaurant business needed a website where he can update his menus, add and remove them without my help afterward. They’re on a budget and needed the website done as quick as possible so I decided to use a Wordpress Theme with their approval and I was able to complete the project in 3 weeks. I recommended GoDaddy.com for Linux hosting and domain then setup the database, uploaded Wordpress, installed and customized the Wordpress theme.

Visit the website here

Yesterday I was checking the website’s traffic status with Google Analytics and I noticed that some traffic were coming from www.PremiumThemes.net so I checked and I was happy to see that they showcased my client’s site as an example. I bought the Wordpress theme from PremiumThemes.net. View the showcase page here

It’s Black Friday and I picked up this Curtis 5.1 Home Theatre System Model: DVD6091 for $48.95 along with a few other things. It came with 5 little speakers and 1 sub-woofer. The price is pretty good and there are only 2 boxes left so I grabbed one. I wanted a Bose system but I’m not ready to spend $1,200 on a home theater system yet.
After installation I noticed that only the 2 front speakers are working and the other 4 were silent although I can tell they’re active because of the slight hissing sound when I placed my ear close to them. So I did some trouble shooting by performing the “Test Tone” from the settings menu and all 5 speakers made a sound confirming that the speakers work.

so I called Curtis Customer Service 800-968-9853 and after being put on hold for 5 minutes I was greeted by their tech support whom I assumed is from India due to his Indian accent. After telling him about the “Test Tone” he instructed me to replace (I guess that meant unplugging them.) all the wires for 30 minutes and unplug the system then carefully plug everything back making sure the wires are properly connected. If that doesn’t work, return the unit to the store and have it replaced.

After hanging up the phone I wasn’t satisfied with his advice since I used to do tech support for satellite receivers myself 10 years ago so I didn’t follow his suggestions of replacing all the 20 color coded wires behind my wall unit which is not easy to get to. What I did was examined the DVD I was trying to watch that I rented from Netflix. It is labeled Dolby Digital. It didn’t say 5.1 Dolby Surround. I took another cd from my collection and I found one that’s labeled 5.1 Dolby Surround. So I played that and Bingo! all 5 speakers worked.

I have no experience with Home Theater systems before and now I know that Curtis home theater systems only works on dvds with Dolby Digital Sound tracks up to 5.1 channels. I’m not sure about other brands but when I’m ready to spend $1,200 for that Bose home theater system, I know what questions to ask.

So if you bought a Curtis Home Theatre System Model DVD6091 and you can only hear the 2 front speakers working? Insert another DVD that’s labeled 5.1 Dolby Surround and choose that 5.1 Dolby option in the menu before calling their tech support from India.

This product’s quality is pretty decent for $48.95. The volume has a maximum limit which is ideal for apartments because you can’t really blast it loud enough. I mean it’s loud but not loud enough for my taste. The other downside for me is the dvd player that it came with. My BluRay player doesn’t have the inputs for its home theater speakers so I’m stuck with the Curtis dvd player if I want surround sound quality.

My overall review on this system is 6.5 out of 10

By the way I phoned Curtis tech support again informing them that I wanted to give them a feedback and let them know how I fixed my problem and that the tech support that answered me previously didn’t know anything about their product. So I politely explained to him why I was only hearing 2 speakers and gave him a short lesson on DVDs how some of them are not compatible with 5.1 surround sound systems and that he’s going to get the same support question soon since these units are flying off the shelf this Black Friday. Then he hanged up on me, or the line was dropped for some reason LoL. Not even a thank you. Oh well. This is why I’m not a big fan of “Off Brand” products. Their support sucks.

How To Avoid This From Happening To You

1. Avoid People from Tagging your Photo/Video.

go to your profile privacy page (mouse-over Setings then click Privacy Setings > Profile)

modify the setting next to “Photos Tagged of You”. Select the option “Custom” and a box will pop up.

Under Friends, select the option “Only Me”

Under Networks, select “None of My Networks” (if you would like to keep all tagged photos private). If you’d like to make tagged photos visible to certain users you can choose to add them in the box under the “Some Friends” option. In the box that displays after you select “Some Friends” you can type either individual friends or friend lists.

Don’t forget to click “Save Changes”

2. Remove yourself from Facebook Search Results.
Here’s How to Remove Yourself From Facebook Search Results:

Visit your search privacy settings page

Under “Search Visibility” select “Only Friends” (doing this will remove yourself from Facebook search results, so make sure you want to be removed totally. Otherwise, you can select a group, such as “My Networks and Friends” which is the default).

Repeat steps to Videos Tagged of You (for video tagging)

Don’t forget to Click “Save Changes”

Frequently, people aren’t aware of their visibility, so this is one of the first settings that users wish to modify.
By selecting “Customize” from the search visibility drop down you can make your settings even more customized.

What is Tethering?
It’s the process that allows your laptop to use your iPhone’s 3G internet connection to surf the internet.

This feature is still not available to AT&T’s iPhone customers even though Apple had introduced these features in iPhone OS 3.0 almost three months ago.

There’s a way to enable Tethering on your iPhone running on OS 3.0.1 without jailbreaking your iPhone. This is convenient in case you need to get online when you’re in places without a free wifi access. Wifi enabled Starbucks sells $5 gift cards if you need to use their wifi.

How to enable Tethering on your iPhone with OS 3.0

Step 1. Using your iPhone’s Safari browser go to the following link http://help.benm.at/help.php
Step 2. Scroll down to Mobileconfigs and tap on Download >
Step 3. Select your country
Step 4. Select your provider
Step 5. Tap install and choose install now
Step 6. Tap Done and exit Safari.

Step 7. Then go to Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering (you will see a message that says, contact your provider regarding tethering. Just tap cancel), you may have to do this 3 – 4 times until you see the toggle button to enable tethering.
Step 8. Exit everything. You’re done.

Plug your white usb cable to your laptop and iPhone and wait for windows Vista to auto detect the network.

If you have a printer attached to your computer, you can share it with anyone in your home. Wireless or cables. It doesn’t matter what type of printer it is, as long as the printer is installed on your computer and directly attached with a USB, cable or other type of printer cable.

Some printers are connected directly to the wireless router and configured so that other computers can print directly to the printer without going through another computer. My printer (brother) was setup this way but it drinks ink like a Hummer and the ink is so expensive that I decided to use my 5 yrs old HP Laserjet 1200 series that I was keeping in storage. It prints black only but this is all I need and the toner has never ran out for five years now.

But I can only connect it to my PC using a USB cable because it didn’t have a network cable input connector (5 yr old printer) for my wireless router and I got 6 computers in the house which may want printer access so I decided to share this HP LaserJet 1200 series printer through my main computer. All my computers are running Windows Vista so I didn’t test this in Windows XP.

Here are the steps To share a printer attached to your computer:

Open Network and Sharing Center by clicking the Start button, then click Control Panel, click Network and Internet, and then click Network and Sharing Center.

Click the arrow button next to Printer sharing to expand the section, click Turn on printer sharing, and then click Apply. Your printer is now shared on the network. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.(I didn’t get this prompt).

If you are using a computer connected to a workgroup, click the arrow button next to Password protected sharing to expand this section, and then check to see if password-protected sharing is turned on or off. Turn this off if you want anyone on your home network to be able to access the printer you are sharing.
To change this setting, select the option you prefer, and then click Apply. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. (I didn’t put any password for easy access).

Here are the steps To print using a shared printer connected to another computer:

You must know the name of the computer that has the printer attached to it. If you don’t know this name, ask someone who uses that computer, or go to the other computer yourself and look it up. Here’s how. Click the Start button and type Welcome Center in the Search Box. The computer name will show in the popup window along with other details.

Going back to the other computer, click the Start button, and then, in the Search box, type \\ followed by the name of the computer with the shared printer you want to use (for example, \\mylaptop).

Press ENTER.

If Windows can find the computer on the network, a folder will open for the computer. Double-click Printers. If any shared printers are connected to this computer, they will appear here. If you don’t see the shared printer you want to use, ask a person who uses that computer if the printer is connected, turned on, and shared with other users on the network.

Double-click the printer. Windows will automatically add the printer to your computer and install the printer driver. When the process is complete, click Next.

The printer should appear in your Printers folder. You can select this printer when you want to print a document or other type of file.
